My Top 5 Favorite Photos

November 20, 2009

I was looking through my old photos today on Flickr, and a few of them really brought back memories. Sometimes my old photos inspire me to do even more in my life, and I wanted to choose my favorite 5 to share, as they may or may not have been seen before.

This is me as a woman. When I was in 8th grade, I hated my Christianity-based school and wanted to go out with a bang. So I dressed in drag for their annual “airband” competition. I was disqualified, but the group who one gave me their winnings as an honorary winning gesture.

This was taken in El Nido, Philippines. You can only get there by first taking a big plane, then a small one, then a small boat. These were the beginnings of my travels as “The Digital Backpacker”

That’s me in there! This was the first time I ever tried stealth camping in Siegburg, Germany. I found a patch of grass hidden by tall weeds on the outskirts of town and camped.

This was the first incarnation of my kit while traveling around the world. At the time, that was literally all I owned, and I still use much of it today.

This is of me, Chanterelle, some family and friends at La Perous beach on Maui, Hawaii where I grew up. We are all gathered in a circle around my mom’s urn, taking a moment of silence before Marco and I spread her ashes.

I have been realizing more and more the importance of photos and the archival of them. It is so nice to have these memories so literally laid out so as to assure me my life really has been as wonderful as I remember.
