My Mother Is Still Giving Me Gifts!

November 4, 2009

Throughout this challenging process with my mom, I can’t help but visualize her literally sitting on the table across the room and calling in orders for angels and gifts to keep me centered and looking forward through the process.

The interesting thing is that the gifts seem to come right after I reach a breakthrough emotionally or creatively. We’re not just talking about karma here, we are talking cause and effect. Instant sweepstakes.

Yesterday, after I posted the emotion-packed blog about missing her, two things happened that I can only attribute, based on their unlikely nature, to my mom’s direct gifts. Some sort of directional power from the afterlife.

The first thing that happened when Jodet, the manager of Samovar, came up to me and gave me a free t-shirt. Now, I rarely wear anything other than merino wool, but this gift touched me on such a level, I went quickly to try it on. This has instantly become my favorite shirt.

But that was just the beginning.

The second incredible thing that happened blew my mind. I was paying the bill at Samovar when I saw Tim Ferris, major hero of mine, and author of The Four Hour Workweek walking up to the cafe. He was talking on his cell phone, and I waited for him to walk inside.

“I have that shirt” I said, pointing at his powder blue shirt when he finally entered Samovar. “You recommended it!”

A conversation ensued, and we talked about the shirt’s sun-protection capabilities. I told him his book had inspired me to quit my job and travel around the world.

“It’s an honor to meet you.” he told me. “Maybe I’ll see you around the cafe.”

He definitely would.

In the last few weeks, I have met three of the childhood heroes I have respected the most throughout my life. As well as had countless beautiful and soul-satisfying experiences here in San Francisco.

Thanks mom.

I love life
