It is my fate and privilege to report to all of my mother’s friends, family, sisters, and brothers, that my mother breathed her last breath this morning at 9:07am California time.
As most of you probably know, my mother’s body was one of the purest on this earth. Her diet was impeccable, and her knowledge of its internal workings was bar-none incredible. It was this finely-tuned machine that allowed her to continue for so long, far beyond the expectations of the Hospice nurses, doctors, and pharmacists. A final testimony to her skill as a doctor and dietitian.
My mother’s practice was her true life’s work. She created her dream in a way that seemed effortless, but every one of her patients know just how much she cared. I can still remember my mother’s telling me of a patient she was worried about. Sometimes, her thoughts would consume her, but mostly she would calmly process them. And somehow, amidst all of her meaningful work, she found time to be the best mother in the world.
There are so many more stories to tell, and I can promise you all they will be told. But for now, it is important you know. It is important for us all to take some quiet moments out of our day to sit on our beds and meditate, focus, like my mom would do each morning. It is important for us to learn from her example. To treat our bodies well. To focus on our passions, and purify our thoughts.
My mother, in one of her last moments of consciousness said to me:
“Keep laughing and have fun. I’ll be there too.”
Thanks mom. I promise I will.
