With my impending relocation to Germany, and the choices/requirements thereof hot on my mind as I purchase gear and plan itineraries, fate steps in and hands me a bone:
I’m sitting here at starbucks when a very good-looking family comes and sits down. They are very healthy and happy looking. I am surprised, as here in America, those two in juncture are somewhat strange to see.
The little boy has a strange entheausiasm for things, speaking with an excitement in his voice. Suddenly, I realize I am listening to the beautiful German language. Instantly, my day is better!
I watch for a few more minutes, and, realizing that if I am going to be traveling for over eight months straight, I better get used to talking to people I don’t know.
“Are you from Germany?” I ask.
“We are from Austria. How did you know?” she says, a friendly tone in her voice.
Soon I discovered that her and her family live in Koeln (where Julie will be based when we are there) and I am able to ask them questions, what should I make sure to see? Which hostel should I check out? etc.
After a nice discussion, I realized they would probably want to get back to their coffee, and making family moments, so I took my leave and thanked them for a wonderful conversation.
